The Mountain View–Birch Tree R-III School District is seeking a visionary, student-centered leader to serve as Superintendent of Schools beginning with the 2027–2028 school year. There is also the possibility for the selected candidate to serve as Interim Superintendent during the 2026–2027 school year, depending on district needs and candidate availability.  The selected candidate will replace Mrs. Lanna Tharp, current Superintendent, who will be retiring at the conclusion of the 2026–2027 school year. 

While we recognize this is an early posting, we firmly believe that our students, staff, and community deserve a thoughtful, thorough search to identify the right leader for our district. This extended timeline allows us to engage in a deliberate process focused on finding a Superintendent who aligns with our district’s values, culture, and long-term vision.

The ideal candidate will:

• Possess relevant experience in educational leadership

• Have demonstrated strong school leadership, particularly in the area of student instruction and academic improvement

• Show a clear commitment to student success and educational excellence

• Value collaboration and build positive relationships with staff, families, and the community

• Lead with integrity, transparency, and sound fiscal responsibility

• Support and empower educators and staff

• Experience with district finance initiatives, including the planning, communication, and implementation of levy and bond measures (preferred, but not required)

• Communicate effectively and lead with purpose and vision

• Possess Missouri Superintendent certification or be eligible for certification prior to the 2027-2028 school year.  

Candidates must hold appropriate Superintendent certification prior to the start of the 2027–2028 school year.
