Our Liberty High School band had the opportunity to participate in the MSHSAA District Music Festival. The band received an Oustanding Rating, and one of the judges remarked, "it the best small band I think I have ever heard." Another said, "This group is living proof that you don't have to be a big band to be a great band. I see great things for the future of this program." These students worked very hard to put on the best performance possible, and their scores reflect that. Several students also participated on the second day of the festival, which was all solos or small ensembles: Taylor Manley - Gold Rating - State Qualifier Kennedy Stallsworth - Silver Rating Drayton Wells - Silver Rating Saxophone Quartet - Kennedy Stallworth, Matthew Roby, Taylor Manley, Alexandria Boomer - Silver Rating Lily Kelly - Bronze Rating Haylee Drexler - Bronze Rating

LHS students went to the Traction Reunion in Columbia on March 27 and 28th. They received a letter of recognition for all the hard work they have been doing and will receive $500 to use as they need it. They want to use this money to get signs and parking passes for next year if approved. Awesome work!

Last week, students at Birch Tree Elementary experienced a traveling museum from the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum. This traveling display contained photographs and information relating to Mrs. Wilder, her famous “Little House” books and America’s westward expansion. It also contained vintage items people might have used during this time period of her life.

Hello, this is Dr. Christensen notifying parents that there are already road closures reported in our area at low-water crossings. There will certainly be roads that our buses will not be able to travel as they take kids home this afternoon after school dismisses at the normal time. If you live on the other side of a low-water crossing, you will need to plan on the bus not being able to drop your child off at home. Please make arrangements to pick up your child from school-- even if you have to pick them up early before the water rises any more. Any students who rode a bus but were not able to be dropped off at home due to high water will be taken back to their school. We appreciate your willingness to work with us as we strive to ensure the safety of all of our students.

Throughout March, we have been recognizing our Board of Education members. Mr. Keith Tharp has served the Mountain View-Birch Tree R-III School District as a Board of Education member for 20 years. Earlier this year he informed the board that this would be his last term. He offered advice during the last board meeting, encouraging all board members and administrators to always keep the needs of the students first. Keith will tell you that his 5 granddaughters and 1 grandson are some of the reasons he continued serving as a board member for 20 years. Thank you, Keith, for 20 years of service at MVBT! (We are pretty sure that Keith is the longest serving board member in MVBT's history.)
