There will be no school today, Tuesday, January 9. Although most roads are clear this morning, there is a potential for additional snowfall and high wind gusts. To avoid an early dismissal, we will be closed all day. Thank you for your patience as we navigate through this unpredictable winter storm.

Let's talk about the FAFSA📑💰 The soft launch for the FAFSA is LIVE now. The form takes about 30 to 45 minutes to complete if you have all the parts and pieces you need. 1. FSA IDs for all contributors - remember it takes 3 to 5 business days to process that request as the Dept of ED & Social Security must verify identity information. (See comments regarding who are contributors) 2. For parents without SSNs - there is a way to verify and validate your identity to obtain an FSA ID - follow the process steps and it may take as many as 10 days - heard one point on that but mostly it is same 3 to 5 business days. 3. Tax data for Contributors from 2022. 4. Remember NO college will receive any data from the Simplified FAFSA until the end of January 2024; so, the colleges will revise their deadlines for you.

The MVBT December Teacher of the Month is Mrs. Carolyn Duckett, MVE Elementary Teacher! Carolyn is one of the most dedicated educators I know! She is 100% here for our students and meets them where they are at not where she wants them to be. She pours herself, tirelessly might I add, into our school. From early morning tutoring to after school tutoring to keeping our school looking beautiful, she is a regular His Girl Friday. The students love and respect her, and most importantly know they are safe with her to be who they are. She is an asset to MVE! Carolyn does it all. She shows up early, is always prepared(even makes sure her co-workers are prepared by assisting them any way they need). She creates an inviting classroom environment for her students that makes them WANT to come to school. She compassionate, but stern when the time calls for it. She is constantly coming up with enriching lessons that allow all of her students to become engaged with their learning. And after ALL that she stays after school (as a custodian) to clean up our classrooms and prepare ALL of us for the next day. She is a rock star and deserves this award! She truly cares for her students, not just academically but emotionally as well. She understands her students and empathizes with them. Carolyn is rocking it! Just walk past her classroom and you’ll see what a fun learning environment she is creating. She is making math fun for kids in some very creative ways! I am nominating Mrs. Duckett because I know without a doubt she loves each and every one of her students like they are her own. She is the main reason my oldest son loves school. She LOVES her class/students, she loves her fellow coworkers, and she loves our building. This is always showing in the things she does. I am nominating her because she is amazing, enthusiastic, focused, organized, and an exceptional teacher. She comes in early and stays late. Every morning when I walk in she has a classroom full of kids having a good time, excited to learn. I see them engaged in hands on learning as I walk by and it makes me smile because I know she loves what she gets to do everyday. Carolyn is a consummate professional. She is always early and prepared for the day. She creates a variety of opportunities for her students to both learn information as well as be successful. She is an excellent collaborator and is always down to do anything for our team and our kiddos. Carolyn is a total delight to work with! She is always prepared above and beyond what's expected. She is here early every morning and stays late every evening. She cares so deeply for her students and is constantly finding ways to reach them to make a difference. She is an asset to MVE! Carolyn always goes above and beyond for her kids. She loves what she does and creates a loving, engaging, learning environment for her students. Carolyn goes above and beyond as a classroom teacher, and then chooses to work a partial shift as a night custodian. Her motivation and hard work is noticeable and I just want her to know she's appreciated! Thank you, Angel Garden, for providing the December MVBT Teacher of the Month gift!

One crucial aspect that significantly influences our students' academic journey is regular school attendance. The second semester offers a fresh start and a chance for all of us to pursue excellence! Our attendance average for 1st Semester is 93.72%. Last year, at the end of 1st Semester, our attendance average was 91.98%. Keep showing up, Eagles! Every day matters! (Parents, we understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, and absences may be necessary on occasion. However, by making a conscious effort to prioritize school attendance, you are investing in your child's future success.)
